Senegal denounces an injustice and will appeal to the CAS following CAF’s shock decision
The Senegalese Football Federation has officially responded to the decision handed down on 17 March by the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football awarding the victory to Morocco.
The decision has sent shockwaves around the world. Senegal, winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, have lost their title to Morocco following the Appeal Panel’s ruling. In a new decision, the Appeal Committee found that the Senegalese team’s conduct had breached the competition regulations. Consequently, CAF ruled that the Lions of Teranga had lost the match, with a 3-0 victory awarded to the Lions of the Atlas.
A decision strongly contested by the Senegalese Football Federation, which describes it as “unprecedented, unjust and unacceptable”, arguing that it damages the image of African football.
In a statement, the Federation announced its intention to refer the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in order to defend its rights and those of Senegalese football.
The Senegalese Football Federation condemns an unjust, unprecedented and unacceptable decision that brings African football into disrepute. To defend its rights and the interests of Senegalese football, the Federation will, as soon as possible, lodge an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.
