Senegal Calls for Independent Probe Into CAF After AFCON 2025 Title Reversal
Senegal’s government has called for an international investigation into the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the decision to strip the country of its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The request comes after CAF’s Appeals Board ruled that Senegal had forfeited the final played in January. The decision was based on an incident during stoppage time, when Senegalese players briefly walked off the pitch in protest. As a result, their 1-0 extra-time victory was overturned and recorded as a 3-0 default win in favour of hosts Morocco.
In a strongly worded statement released on Wednesday, the Senegalese government condemned the ruling, describing it as “grossly illegal and profoundly unjust.”
Authorities have now called for an independent international investigation to examine what they believe are possible signs of corruption within CAF’s leadership.
