Seko Fofana announces his retirement from international football

The 31-year-old striker officially announced on Monday 14 September that he will no longer play for Ivory Coast.

Seko Fofana will no longer represent the Elephants on the international stage. After 34 appearances for the Ivory Coast national team, the 2023 African champion has decided to move on.

His time with the Ivory Coast Elephants was marked by seven goals scored, a victory in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan and a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Seko Fofana announced his retirement from international football in a message posted on social media.

“Dear Ivorian supporters,

The time has come for me to move on. It is with pride and deep gratitude that I have had the chance to represent my country.

Winning the continent’s most prestigious trophy was a childhood dream come true for me, and these memories will remain etched in the minds of millions of Ivorians forever.

Thank you to my team-mates, the coaching staff and all of you for your strength and support. I will always remain the Elephants’ number one supporter, and I look forward to seeing this new generation make their mark on history.

We certainly have no shortage of talent.”
