Seattle Kraken's goaltender, Joey Daccord, etched his name into the history of the National Hockey League.

The first game of the New Year featured a matchup between the Seattle Kraken and the Vegas Golden Knights as part of the Winter Classic. The hosts secured a convincing 3-0 victory, scoring early in each period. Tolvanen opened the scoring with a goal just five minutes into the match, and the second period saw the lead extend to 2-0. Yanni Gourde sealed the final score early in the third period.

Vegas failed to respond, and with this shutout victory, Seattle's goaltender Joey Daccord made history in the NHL. Thus, Daccord became the fifth goaltender to achieve a shutout in an outdoor game. Previously, this feat was accomplished by Craig Anderson (2017), Cam Talbot (2016), Jonas Hiller (2014), and Miikka Kiprusoff (2011).

The Kraken secured their fifth consecutive victory, accumulating 39 points and holding the ninth position in the Western Conference standings. The Golden Knights, on the other hand, suffered their fifth loss in the last six games, maintaining 49 points and occupying the third position in the West.
