"Scoundrel and liar"! Luís Figo publicly demands Infantino's resignation

Pressure on Gianni Infantino has reached boiling point.

Details: Legendary Portuguese footballer Luís Figo has publicly called for FIFA president Gianni Infantino to resign following his failed attempt to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors. The Ballon d'Or winner slammed the FIFA chief's actions as “vile, deceitful, and cowardly!”—an outburst from the former Real Madrid and Barcelona star that no one saw coming.

Figo lashed out at Infantino after the latter, under immense pressure from the football world, scrapped the FIFA Forward Enterprise project—a $20 billion venture that would have sold a 20% stake to private investors. The plan faced stiff opposition from UEFA, Asia, and CONCACAF; FIFA's senior advisor Carlos Cordeiro and chief operating officer Kévin Lamour both resigned in protest, and UEFA unanimously voted to boycott FIFA competitions.

"He lied, deceived, and tried to line his own pockets at the expense of the game he was supposed to serve," Figo concluded, as Infantino himself is currently holding crisis talks with FIFA executives in Morocco.

UEFA voted 55-0 in favour of a boycott—marking the first time in history that all national associations on the continent have unanimously opposed the sitting FIFA president.
