The Ballon d'Or verdict has caused a storm inside Lamine Yamal's family.

Details: Lamine Yamal's uncle, Abdul Abdellaoui, reacted furiously after Harry Kane was crowned the 2026 Ballon d'Or winner. Speaking to Cadena SER's El Larguero after the ceremony, he made it clear that he strongly disagreed with the final result. Kane finished first in the voting, Kylian Mbappé was second, while the 19-year-old Barcelona winger took third place.

Abdul did not hide his disappointment and argued that his nephew deserved to be recognised as the world's best footballer after a season in which Yamal celebrated major trophies with both Barcelona and Spain.

“Lamine was the BEST player in the world. Everyone knows it. If you love football, you go to watch Lamine, NOT Harry Kane. Lamine has won the World Cup, La Liga and the Super Cup. He's had an incredible season. He scores goals nobody else scores. He has everything. Lamine is only 19. He will win FIVE Ballon d'Or awards!” Abdul said.

The uncle's emotional reaction came immediately after one of the biggest individual decisions of the football year. Despite missing out on the main prize, Yamal once again left the ceremony with an individual honour of his own.

It is worth noting that Yamal, who remains Barcelona's No. 10 at the age of 19, finished third in the 2026 Ballon d'Or voting and won the Kopa Trophy for the third consecutive year.
