Scandal surrounding Manchester City gathers pace: details of Mancini's dual contract emerge

Manchester City is facing fresh revelations in the case involving breaches of financial regulations. Among the charges on which the club was found guilty were payments to Roberto Mancini, who managed the team from 2009 to 2013. According to the allegations, the Italian had two agreements: one official contract, while the second was allegedly used to arrange additional payments.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Mancini's official contract provided for a basic salary of around €1.69 million net per year. He is also alleged to have received approximately €2.03 million under an agreement with Al Jazira, an Abu Dhabi-based club linked to Sheikh Mansour. Formally, the arrangement concerned consultancy services that required minimal involvement from the coach.

Investigators claimed that the funds passed through several related entities before reaching Mancini. The Premier League considered the scheme a way to conceal the true value of the payments and circumvent financial regulations.

The club and Mancini had previously denied the allegations. Nevertheless, the Italian's tenure became one of the most significant periods in the club's history: over three and a half years, the team won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Community Shield. The 2011/12 league title was City's first in 44 years.
