Scandal in the US! Argentine footballer detained right before traveling to the match

The trip to a crucial fixture ended in arrest for an Argentine footballer, as he was apprehended by immigration officials.

Details: According to FootballTweet, Argentine midfielder for Miami United, Matias Purain, was detained by agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The incident unfolded at the airport as the team was en route to Los Angeles for a match. Following his arrest, the player was transferred to a maximum-security detention center.

ICE officials stated that the footballer had been residing in the U.S. since 2019, but his initial entry permit was only valid for six months. Meanwhile, the player’s family and attorney strongly contest the authorities’ actions. They claim Purain had submitted his asylum application on time, possessed a Social Security number and work authorization, and that all his documents were in order.

It’s worth noting that Miami United competes in the fourth tier of the United States soccer league system.
