The transfer saga of Yan Diomande has escalated into an open war between insiders.
Details: Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg publicly criticized Fabrizio Romano after his report about RB Leipzig winger's move to Real Madrid. The Italian insider announced an agreement worth over €100 million and dropped his trademark Here we go, but Plettenberg insists that negotiations were far from concluded.
According to Plettenberg, at the time of publication, neither the basic terms of the deal nor the final transfer fee had been agreed upon. The journalist argues that Romano rushed to declare the transfer done, relying on the high likelihood of a deal and his desire to break the news first.
Plettenberg also pointed out the vague "over €100 million" phrasing. In his view, if the transfer really merited the Here we go status, Romano should have named the exact agreed-upon sum, not just an approximate figure. The transfer fee, after all, remained the main sticking point in negotiations.
The spat quickly grew beyond the Diomande transfer. Romano accused Sky Germany of spreading unreliable information, while Plettenberg shot back, criticizing his colleague for chasing algorithms, rushing to publish, and doing whatever it takes to be first.
It's worth noting that last season, Diomande featured in 36 matches, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists. Transfermarkt currently values the Ivorian winger at €90 million.
