Scaloni to Call Up River’s Mastantuono for June World Cup Qualifiers

Franco Mastantuono continues his meteoric rise at River Plate, as he’s set to receive his first senior call-up to Argentina’s national team for June’s World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia.

The 17-year-old left-footed playmaker will join Lionel Scaloni’s squad to begin integrating with the senior setup, Olé reports.

Mastantuono has already starred for Argentina at the U17 and U20 levels and now earns the nod after an impressive 2025 season with seven goals and four assists.

River, however, is concerned about the timing: the Colombia match is on June 10, just one week before the club’s FIFA Club World Cup debut against Urawa Red Diamonds in the U.S.
