Saviour Maguire and record-breaking Haaland: Team of Matchday 27 in the Premier League according to Dailysports
From February 25 to 27, Premier League teams battled it out in Matchweek 27. Unlike the previous round, where away teams dominated, only Fulham and Manchester City secured victories on the road, defeating Wolves and Tottenham, respectively.
Arsenal dropped points again, failing to score in back-to-back games for the first time since May 2023. Meanwhile, Liverpool continued their scoring spree, netting twice against Newcastle to become the first team this season to surpass 100 goals across all competitions. The Reds also extended their home winning streak to 18 matches, each with at least two goals scored.
Elsewhere, Brighton overcame Bournemouth, Crystal Palace stunned Aston Villa with a four-goal haul, and Chelsea put four past Southampton. Everton settled for yet another draw, this time against Brentford. West Ham edged past Leicester, while Manchester United secured a dramatic win over Ipswich despite going down to ten men.
Premier League Team of the Week – Matchweek 27
Goalkeeper: Ederson (Manchester City)
The Brazilian put in a solid performance to keep a clean sheet—only his fifth of the season. Against Tottenham, he made six saves, one punch, and two clearances. He also completed 21 (84%) accurate passes, including three long balls.
Left-back: Marc Cucurella (Chelsea)
The Spaniard was Chelsea’s standout player in their dominant win over Southampton. He recorded six tackles, one clearance, one blocked shot, and one interception. Cucurella completed 55 (93%) accurate passes, won 8 of 9 ground duels, and successfully dribbled past his opponent once.
In the 78th minute, he capped off his performance with a goal, securing a 4-0 win—his third goal of the season.
Centre-back: William Saliba (Arsenal)
The Frenchman was a rock at the back, making seven clearances, one tackle, two interceptions, and one blocked shot. His crucial last-ditch tackle denied Chris Wood from scoring.
Saliba completed 71 (90%) accurate passes, including three long balls, and won all six of his aerial duels.
Centre-back: Harry Maguire (Manchester United)
Maguire played a key role in United’s win over Ipswich. He registered seven clearances, two tackles, three blocked shots, and one interception. He completed 46 (87%) accurate passes, including three long balls.
The England international won 3 of 3 ground duels and 6 of 7 aerial battles. Most importantly, his 47th-minute header secured a hard-fought victory for United despite being a man down.
Right-back: Jake O’Brien (Everton)
The Irishman was instrumental in Everton’s draw against Brentford, making nine clearances, three tackles, one interception, and one blocked shot. He completed 25 (81%) passes, including one long ball.
O’Brien won 8 of 11 duels and, crucially, scored his first goal for Everton in the 77th minute, salvaging a point for the Toffees and extending their unbeaten run to seven matches.
Defensive midfielder: Tomáš Souček (West Ham)
The Czech midfielder recorded three clearances, one tackle, and one interception. He won 6 of 11 duels and completed 35 (81%) accurate passes.
On his birthday, Souček opened the scoring in a game that ended in a West Ham victory—his first goal in six weeks.
Left midfielder: Jaden Philogene (Ipswich)
Despite Ipswich’s loss to Manchester United, Philogene was their best player. He completed 30 (94%) passes, including two key passes and one cross.
The 22-year-old also made three interceptions and three tackles while scoring both of his team’s goals—his first brace since November 2023, when he was still at Hull City.
Right midfielder: Ismaïla Sarr (Crystal Palace)
The Senegalese winger played a crucial role in Palace’s emphatic win over Aston Villa. He opened the scoring in the 29th minute and doubled his tally in the 71st to seal the victory.
Attacking midfielder: Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool)
Against Newcastle, Szoboszlai made 32 (89%) accurate passes, including two long balls. He also won seven of nine ground duels and won a free kick.
The Hungarian midfielder opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finding the net for the second consecutive game. He now has five Premier League goals this season.
Striker: Christopher Nkunku (Chelsea)
The French forward was decisive in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Southampton, scoring once and providing an assist.
He completed 24 (89%) passes, including two key passes. He also won an aerial duel and drew two fouls.
Striker: Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
Returning from injury, Haaland scored the only goal in City’s 1-0 win over Tottenham. The Norwegian became just the second player in Premier League history to score 20+ goals in each of his first three seasons—matching Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record.
Manager: Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace)
The Austrian tactician masterminded Crystal Palace’s 4-1 victory over Aston Villa with an aggressive pressing system that forced key defensive errors.
His tactical adjustments, including emphasizing wide play and counter-attacks, allowed Palace’s forwards to exploit space and dominate the game. Ismaïla Sarr’s brace and Jean-Philippe Mateta’s contributions were direct results of Glasner’s approach.
