Saprissa Parts Ways with Sporting Director, Seeks Striker Ahead of Apertura

Deportivo Saprissa is undergoing key changes as it prepares for the upcoming Apertura 2025. According to local reports, the Costa Rican club has decided to dismiss Spanish sporting director Sergio Gila, following a leadership meeting on Tuesday to evaluate his performance. Gila had held the position since July 2023, succeeding his compatriot Ángel Catalina.
While the club has yet to name an official replacement, former national team goalkeeper Erick Lonnis has emerged as a possible candidate to take over the role in the coming days.
In parallel, Saprissa is actively searching for a new center-forward after disappointing performances from Orlando Sinclair and Spain’s Sabin Merino. The club is reportedly targeting international options in hopes of strengthening its frontline ahead of the new season.
With both institutional and roster decisions on the table, the next few days will be critical. Saprissa’s next official announcement will likely shape its direction in both the domestic league and the Central American Cup.
