Santos to Join Vitória Cup, A New Brazil-Argentina Rivalry Stage in Espírito Santo
Santos FC is close to finalizing its participation in the Vitória Cup, an international friendly tournament held in Vitória, the capital of Brazil’s Espírito Santo state. While the club has yet to confirm the news officially, logistics are already being coordinated, and ticket announcements are expected soon. The match is scheduled for Thursday, July 10 at the Kleber Andrade Stadium in Cariacica.
Launched on June 6, the Vitória Cup brings together four teams from Brazil and Argentina. Its inaugural edition includes Cruzeiro, local side Desportiva Ferroviária, Banfield, and Defensa y Justicia. Organizers say the goal is to rekindle the historic South American rivalry in a fresh setting, offering fans exciting matchups rooted in tradition and pride.
Santos’ interest in the tournament grew after the postponement of their scheduled July 13 clash against Palmeiras. During the league break, the club considered several friendly options, including one against Remo in Belém and others abroad, but none materialized. With the calendar now open, the Vitória Cup emerged as a timely solution.
So far, Desportiva Ferroviária has lost both of its matches, while Cruzeiro and Defensa have each notched wins. For Santos, the game offers valuable match rhythm and a stage to reenergize before official competition resumes.
