Santos Reveals Mixed Financial Results From 2024 Player Sales
Santos FC closed 2024 with a net profit of R$127 million from player sales, according to a detailed report published by ge. The standout deal was the transfer of striker Marcos Leonardo to Benfica for R$81 million, followed by an additional R$11 million from a sell-on clause when the Portuguese club sold him to Al-Hilal.
In total, the club completed 31 outgoing transactions, grossing R$207 million. However, R$80 million in associated expenses—including debts, fines, and commissions—reduced the final gain. The club emphasized the importance of these transfers, especially given their absence from both the Copa do Brasil and international competitions during the year.
The sale of midfielder Jean Lucas to Bahia, valued at R$29 million, yielded no net profit. Santos used the full amount to settle outstanding debts with French club Monaco and the player himself.
One of the most striking figures in the report is the R$14 million paid in agent commissions, though the document does not specify the recipients. In addition, Santos spent R$14 million to settle a debt with Cuiabá related to defender Joaquim, who was sold to Tigres of Mexico for R$36 million.
Other key transfers included Lucas Barbosa (R$11.5 million to Red Bull Bragantino), Weslley Patati (R$6.6 million to Maccabi Tel Aviv), and Gabriel Pirani (R$4.6 million to DC United). Despite solid revenues, the club's outstanding liabilities dampened the overall impact.
Looking ahead to 2025, Santos anticipates surpassing last year’s earnings through deals like Jair Cunha’s transfer to Botafogo, which could reach R$89 million, including the arrival of Tiquinho Soares as part of the package.
