Uruguayan goalkeeper Santiago Mele is the newest addition to CF Monterrey, having joined the club on a permanent transfer with a contract running until 2029, the team confirmed in an official announcement on Wednesday morning.

Mele, 27, will be part of Monterrey’s squad at the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where the Mexican side is set to debut on Tuesday, June 17 in Los Angeles. His arrival brings a blend of experience, leadership, and international pedigree to the Albiazul goal.

The Montevideo native began his professional journey at Club Fénix before making the jump to Europe with Turkish side Osmanlıspor and Spain’s Lleida Esportiu. He later returned to South America, playing for Plaza Colonia, Unión de Santa Fe, and Junior de Barranquilla.

At the international level, Mele was part of Uruguay’s U-20 South American Championship-winning squad and reached the semifinals of the 2017 U-20 World Cup. He debuted with the senior national team in 2023 and featured in the side that finished third at the 2024 Copa América.

Rayados bring in Mele to add depth, competition, and stability in goal as the club prepares for a demanding year ahead.
