Atlético de San Luis is aiming to extend its winning streak and push for a direct Play-In spot in the Clausura 2025. According to ESPN, the Potosí-based club, led by coach Domenec Torrent, will face Tijuana in matchday 15, hoping to capitalize on recent momentum after back-to-back victories following the international break.
Despite sitting 13th in the standings and trailing the final Play-In spot by just two points, the squad remains focused on climbing the table. Defender Eduardo Águila emphasized a game-by-game mindset: “We want to win in Tijuana. That’s the goal,” he stated.
Águila, 23, has emerged as a standout figure in San Luis’ backline. The former youth player broke into the first team during the 2023 Clausura and seized a starting role after the departure of Unai Bilbao. His strong performances have drawn attention from Liga MX giants like Rayados, but Águila is focused on a move to Europe. “It’s every Mexican player’s dream. I’d choose Europe for the experience,” he said.
His form earned him a call-up by Javier Aguirre for a friendly tour with the national team in South America earlier this year. As San Luis prepares for a crucial stretch, they’ll be without injured forwards Leonardo Bonatini and Yan Phillipe. Still, the team travels to Tijuana with confidence, knowing a strong finish could secure a Play-In berth and keep their postseason hopes alive.
