San Lorenzo Midfielder Elián Irala Close to Move to UAE’s Shabab Al-Ahli

San Lorenzo may be on the verge of parting ways with one of its top young prospects. According to Mundo Azulgrana, UAE champions Shabab Al-Ahli have submitted an offer to acquire Elián Irala, the 20-year-old midfielder who has featured regularly for the Argentine side.

The potential deal comes at a time when San Lorenzo is seeking financial relief. The club is reportedly looking to clear $2.15 million in outstanding debts to lift transfer bans, and Irala’s sale could play a key role in addressing that need.

This isn’t the first time Irala has drawn international interest. In September 2024, another club from the UAE made a $7 million bid for 70% of his rights, but the transfer ultimately fell through. Earlier this year, he was also close to joining Internacional of Porto Alegre, though the move collapsed late in negotiations.

Irala, born in Castelar, has scored twice in 74 senior appearances for San Lorenzo. After a breakout period, his form has been inconsistent, notably receiving a red card in the Apertura quarterfinals against Tigre.

While the deal has yet to be finalized, sources close to the club believe it’s only a matter of time. With Shabab Al-Ahli looking to bolster their squad ahead of the season restart post-Club World Cup, Irala could soon be packing his bags for Dubai.
