San Lorenzo Faces Turmoil as Opposition Plans Protest Against Moretti’s Return
Marcelo Moretti has announced his intention to return as president of San Lorenzo next week, but not everyone is ready to welcome him back. In fact, the club’s opposition, led by former presidential candidate César Francis, has called for a protest at the club’s headquarters this Friday evening, aiming to block Moretti’s reinstatement.
Francis, who also filed a criminal complaint against Moretti, urged fans and members to gather at Av. La Plata at 8 p.m, local time. “There is no more time for personal egos or speculation. We must prioritize San Lorenzo,” he posted on social media, gaining swift support from disgruntled supporters.
Moretti’s return comes amid serious legal trouble. He faces allegations of accepting a $25,000 bribe from a youth player’s mother and of unilaterally organizing a $220,000 charter trip to Ecuador using club funds. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has summoned him to testify on July 8, charging him with breach of trust and enabling groups to commit crimes.

Despite this, Moretti remains defiant. He stated he will not step down and emphasized that he was democratically elected. He also declared he would fund squad reinforcements himself and resume the long-awaited stadium project: “I am the project.”
The legal storm continues to grow. He skipped a court summons scheduled for June 26 and still faces another case stemming from a journalistic investigation aired in April.
As pressure mounts from both judicial fronts and fan unrest, San Lorenzo braces for a critical showdown—not on the field, but in the heart of its own institution.
