Samuel Eto’o Backs Sadio Mane to Win African Footballer of the Year Award

The President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) Samuel Eto’o has publicly thrown his support behind Senegal star Sadio Mane, insisting the forward deserves to be crowned African Footballer of the Year.

Speaking in an interview with FRANCE24, the former Cameroon and Barcelona striker Eto’o highlighted Mane’s immense influence both on and off the pitch, describing him as a true leader and an inspiration to his teammates.

Eto’o specifically referenced Mane’s composure and leadership during a tense moment in Senegal’s recent clash, when a late penalty was awarded to Morocco. According to the Cameroonian legend, Mane’s calm intervention helped steady his teammates and ultimately played a key role in guiding Senegal to victory.

“I’m honoured to call him a friend,” Eto’o said. “His leadership during that match was exceptional. I truly hope he wins the African Footballer of the Year award again, because what he showed, especially yesterday, reflects the qualities of a great leader.”
