Liverpool’s talisman Mohamed Salah has long been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with local clubs reportedly ready to splash serious cash for the star forward. The Egyptian himself admitted that a transfer was indeed close to becoming reality.

Details: But the move won’t happen, as Salah has already extended his contract with Liverpool. Had talks with the Reds not ended successfully, he would have made the switch to a Saudi club upon the expiration of his contract with the newly crowned Premier League champions.

Quote: “It was a great opportunity for me—if I hadn’t renewed my contract with Liverpool, it would have happened. I have a very good relationship with representatives of the Saudi Pro League; we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious.

Talks with Liverpool were lengthy. I know the club’s policy, but we found a golden middle ground that made everyone happy. Some of the pressure on the club came from the fans—I always knew from the start they wanted me to stay, and they definitely played their part,” Salah said in an interview with Egyptian television.
