A new goalkeeper drama is brewing at Paris Saint-Germain! Despite being the club's first choice, Matvey Safonov could soon face fresh competition as the French champions reportedly consider another move in the transfer market.

Details: According to Vibes Foot, citing Le Parisien, PSG are considering signing a goalkeeper during the January transfer window. The club's management are reportedly not completely convinced by Safonov's performances and want to assess possible reinforcements. The Russian international remains an important member of Luis Enrique's squad, but questions about his consistency have apparently persisted. No specific target, official negotiations or transfer agreement has been announced.

Safonov established himself as PSG's preferred goalkeeper during the previous campaign, moving ahead of Lucas Chevalier. However, his performances at the beginning of the new season have attracted criticism. In September, L'Équipe questioned his inability to produce decisive saves despite the team's wider defensive problems.

Paris have already explored the goalkeeper market. During the summer, the club attempted to recruit Japanese international Zion Suzuki from Parma for a package worth approximately €35 million. That move ultimately collapsed, leaving the existing goalkeeping hierarchy unchanged.

A winter signing could completely reopen competition for the starting position. Safonov and Chevalier would face another rival, while Luis Enrique would gain additional options. For now, however, the possibility remains a reported transfer consideration rather than an approved deal.

It's worth noting that Safonov joined PSG from Krasnodar in 2024. His contract runs until 2029, meaning the Parisian club would need to make a separate decision about his future if another goalkeeper arrives.

Reminder: Is Safonov done? PSG find a new goalkeeper who dazzled at the World Cup.
