In the capital of Spain, Madrid, the WTA 1000 tournament continues. In the 1/16 final stage, the 72nd ranked player in the world, Mayar Sherif from Egypt, met with the fourth-ranked player, Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan, on the court.

Rybakina was considered the favorite of the encounter and effortlessly proved it on the court. Despite the fact that the Kazakh player served for an exit and made one double fault in the first set, she won all four games on her serve and took two out of three games from her opponent. Sherif, on her serves, reached break points twice but failed to claim the games. As a result, Rybakina secured a confident victory of 6-1.

In the second set, the 72nd-ranked player also attempted to challenge her opponent and won the first game, which was on her serve. Afterward, she lost a game on her serve but then regained two. Rybakina once again committed a double fault, but it did not prevent her from claiming her games. Winning all games on her serve and two out of four on return earned her a victory in the second set with a score of 6-3.

Elena Rybakina confidently secured her spot in the 1/8 final without dropping a set in two matches against her opponents. Her previous match against Italian Lucia Bronzetti (WTA 46) ended in favor of the Kazakh player with a score of 6-4, 6-3.

In the next stage of the tournament, Rybakina will face the 136th-ranked player in the world, Sara Bejlek from the Czech Republic.
