Ryan Cherki is Manchester United's priority target for the summer window
Manchester United has emerged as the frontrunner in the race to sign the talented French winger, who impressed the club in a Europa League match this week.
21-year-old Ryan Cherki became the hero for Lyon in the first leg of their quarter-final clash with United, equalizing in the dying moments after a mistake by Andre Onana, denying the Red Devils an away victory.
According to The Mirror, Manchester United has been monitoring the player for a long time. The club showed interest in Cherki since he was 16 and even considered bringing him into the academy under Nicky Butt's leadership. However, the player decided to stay in France and signed his first professional contract with Lyon.
Now, with his progress and consistent performances, the Mancunians are ready to revisit the transfer idea and reportedly top the list of suitors. The deal is expected to cost around £20 million.
Other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle, have also shown interest in Cherki. However, United currently appears to be the leading contender for the player's signature.
To date, Cherki has 178 appearances for Lyon, in which he has scored 27 goals and provided 43 assists.
