Reserve places at the Youth EuroBaskets have been canceled for Russia and Belarus

FIBA-Europe has canceled the reserved spots for Russia and Belarus in the Youth EuroBasket, as reported by the Basketball Federation of Ukraine.
The decision was made during a meeting of the FIBA-Europe Council chaired by FIBA-Europe President Jorge Garbajosa in Switzerland. The Youth Commission's recommendation to cancel the reserved spots for the teams of Russia and Belarus was approved.
Organizers will revert to the promotion and relegation system, with three teams moving up from Division B and three teams dropping down from Division A.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian and Belarusian teams were suspended from international competitions. However, FIBA had frozen the places of the Russian and Belarusian youth teams, meaning that the teams did not move down from their current divisions.
Additionally, during the meeting, Finland and Lithuania were approved as hosts for the FIBA EuroBasket Women 2027. The Council also confirmed the hosts for the Youth European Championships next year.
