Cerro Porteño have yet to make a signing this transfer window, and their market activity remains on hold due to an outstanding debt related to Francisco da Costa. However, as reported by Versus, the Paraguayan giants are evaluating a high-profile target: Rubén Botta, the 35-year-old Argentine playmaker currently with Talleres de Córdoba.

Botta’s name was reportedly proposed by head coach Diego Martínez and has been approved by sporting director Gabriel Wainer. With Federico Carrizo as the only established attacking midfielder in the squad, Cerro are eager to bolster their creativity in the final third.

A left-footed midfielder, Botta is capable of playing as a traditional No. 10 or as an advanced wide man in a four-man midfield. While he may have lost some pace, his technical quality and vision remain sharp—traits that could prove vital in tight matches.

With a résumé that includes Tigre, Inter Milan, Chievo Verona, Pachuca, San Lorenzo, and Defensa y Justicia, Botta brings pedigree and experience. But for any deal to move forward, Cerro must first resolve their registration ban.

If the issue is settled in time, Botta could become the first marquee arrival for the club’s second-half campaign.
