Ruan Bids Farewell to São Paulo: “My Desire Was to Stay” Ruan Bids Farewell to São Paulo: “My Desire Was to Stay”

Ruan Tressoldi has officially parted ways with São Paulo after his loan from Sassuolo expired on June 30. In an emotional farewell shared on social media, the 25-year-old center back expressed gratitude for his time with the club but admitted disappointment over his departure. “I found joy in playing football again here,” he wrote. “My desire was to stay, but some decisions are out of our hands.”

As reported by Lance!, São Paulo had aimed to extend the loan due to financial constraints, while Sassuolo insisted on a permanent transfer. Unable to meet those terms, the Brazilian side allowed the agreement to lapse, sending Ruan back to Italy.

Complicating matters further is Ruan’s current injury. He’s set to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and hasn’t played since May 20, when he featured in a 2-1 Copa do Brasil win over Náutico. During the final weeks of his loan, Ruan did not report to São Paulo’s training center, even for treatment—unlike injured teammates like Lucas Moura and Oscar, who returned early.

Despite the abrupt end, Ruan leaves with appreciation and pride. São Paulo was a place of personal and professional renewal, and though the chapter closes, the defender looks ahead to new challenges with confidence.
