RS Berkane Land in Uyo as Rivers United Face Must-Win CAFCL Test

Moroccan giants RS Berkane arrived in Uyo on Wednesday evening ahead of Friday’s CAF Champions League Group A match against Rivers United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. The team settled into their hotel without fuss, signalling full focus on a game that could shape the early group standings.

Rivers United are under pressure after a 3–0 defeat to defending champions Pyramids FC in Cairo. Berkane, meanwhile, top the group following a commanding 3–0 win over Power Dynamos.

Head coach Mouine Chaabani said his team travelled with confidence, stressing their desire to maintain momentum. “We are going to Nigeria with the ambition of returning with a positive result… We hope it will be an away win,” he said, adding that the team aims “to go as far as possible in this CAF Champions League.”

Chaabani also confirmed minor concerns over Murabit and Mehri, explaining that both players felt slight discomfort but “nothing worrying… Both will be evaluated by the medical team.”

Senegal’s Issa Sy will officiate the match. For Rivers United, making their debut in the group stage, a home victory is essential to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.
