Rovers Sack Coaches After Shock Home Defeat
Rovers FC of Calabar have dissolved their technical crew following a 2-0 home loss to Akwa United in a Nigeria National League clash on Saturday.
Akwa United, powered by goals from Yeniek Menegbe and Adio Ganiuu, claimed the away win to tighten their grip at the top and boost promotion hopes.
In a statement dated January 12, the club said the crew was dissolved after “disappointing performances…recent outings.” Officials said a new technical structure would improve effectiveness, restore confidence and revive fans’ hope.
Sports Commission chairman Etta Lawrence called the loss “unacceptable” and said, “I honestly do not think Rovers are prepared for promotion,” adding that funding was no longer an excuse.
Akwa United chairman Joseph Eno praised a “well deserved” victory, while advisers warned Rovers’ promotion push has been seriously dented this season.
