The Third Round of qualification for the 2026 World Cup in Asia kicked off with two stunning upsets. In the opening match, Australia surprisingly suffered a 0-1 home defeat to Bahrain.
Australia was reduced to 10 men in the 77th minute, and just before the end of regular time, Harry Souttar scored an own goal, sealing Bahrain's historic first-ever victory over Australia.
In another surprising result, South Korea, one of Asia's traditional powerhouses, was held to a 0-0 draw at home by Palestine. Despite dominating possession with 79%, the Koreans couldn't break down Palestine's defense.
Additionally, Japan delivered an incredible performance, thrashing China 7-0 in a commanding victory.
In Round 2, Australia will play away against Indonesia, while South Korea will face Oman.
