Ronwen Williams made 4 penalty saves! South Africa has become the last AFCON semi-finalist

Ivory Coast hosted the last quarter-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Cape Verde and South Africa fought for the right to be among the top four teams on the continent. Cape Verde has never reached the AFCON semi-finals before in history, while South Africa has not reached the top 4 since 2000.

The match was not eventful. The islanders from Cape Verde shot 25 times towards the opponent's goal, but only twice hit the target. South Africa's figures were 16 and 6.

The fate of the match was decided in a penalty shootout, which was won by South Africa. The headliner of the evening was Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwan Williams: he read the direction of all the opponents' shots and kicked four out of five.

South Africa will face Nigeria in the semi-finals. The match will take place on 7 February.
