Salomón Rondón is reportedly set to leave Pachuca following the Club World Cup, with newly promoted La Liga side Real Oviedo emerging as his most likely destination. According to journalist César Luis Merlo, the Venezuelan striker could soon be heading to Spain after helping the Mexican club reach the intercontinental tournament.

The Pachuca Group appears ready to reallocate resources across its network of clubs, focusing on securing Real Oviedo’s place in Spain’s top flight after a 24-year absence. The move would bring experienced leadership to a squad aiming for survival.

Rondón, 35, has been a key figure at Pachuca since returning to Mexico: 36 goals in 70 appearances. Though he didn’t win a league title, his leadership and performance in the Intercontinental Cup — where Pachuca beat Copa Libertadores champions Botafogo and reached the final against Real Madrid — earned him lasting recognition.

Pachuca returned winless from the Club World Cup amid a turbulent campaign that included the short tenure of coach Jaime Lozano. Losing Rondón would mark the end of an important chapter both on and off the pitch.

No official announcement has been made yet, but signs point to a closing deal. Rondón now looks set to take on a new challenge — helping Real Oviedo avoid immediate releg back to the second tier.
