Roger De Sa Criticises CAF Over AFCON 2025 Verdict, Says Decision Makes Authorities “Look Silly”
Veteran coach Roger De Sa has expressed strong disappointment with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following its controversial decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.
CAF awarded the trophy to Morocco after upholding an appeal related to Senegal’s walk-off protest during the final. The ruling overturned the original result, converting Senegal’s 1-0 win into a 3-0 forfeit victory for the hosts.
Speaking to KickOff, De Sa admitted that while the rules may have been applied, the overall handling of the situation raises concerns.
“If you remember when it happened, I said according to the rules Senegal shouldn’t have won the game. You can’t have players leaving the field,” he explained.
“If they come back to the field, they should be booked. That’s what the law says. So, CAF obviously went above the law. So, CAF and FIFA has to step in. Now they are looking a little bit silly.”
