35-year-old Riyad Mahrez is close to continuing his career in Qatar. According to talkSPORT, the legendary former Manchester City player has reached a verbal agreement with Al-Shamal and could sign a contract with the club in the near future.

Mahrez has been a free agent since July, when he left Saudi side Al Ahli. The 2026 World Cup was the final tournament of his international career. The winger made four appearances for Algeria and scored twice before announcing his retirement from international football.

Mahrez is now ready to return to club football. Former Arsenal defender Pablo Marí also plays for Al-Shamal. The Algerian's move is expected to be officially confirmed in the near future.

During his three years with Al Ahli, Mahrez made 122 appearances in all competitions, scoring 37 goals and providing 38 assists. In 2023, he moved to Saudi Arabia from Manchester City for £30 million. During his time with the English club, Mahrez won the Premier League title five times. Now, the experienced winger is ready to open a new chapter in his career in Qatar.
