Rivers United Hold Power Dynamos to Goalless Draw in CAF Champions League Clash
Rivers United picked up their first point of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League group stage after holding Zambia’s Power Dynamos to a 0–0 draw at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday.
The result marked a positive response from Finidi George’s side, who came into the encounter after suffering back-to-back defeats in their opening two group matches. Rivers United had previously lost to Egyptian champions Pyramids FC and Moroccan outfit RS Berkane, leaving them under pressure heading into the game in Zambia.
Despite playing away from home, the Port Harcourt-based club showed resilience and defensive discipline to frustrate their hosts and secure a valuable point on the road.
After three group matches, Rivers United remain third in the standings with one point, but the draw keeps their qualification hopes alive as the competition reaches a crucial stage.
Rivers United will now turn their focus to the reverse fixture against Power Dynamos, scheduled for matchday four of the group stage. The Port Harcourt-based club will host the Zambian side next Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
