River Signs Spanish-Argentine Prospect Alex Woiski From Mallorca
On Argentina’s Independence Day, River Plate made a quiet but impactful move by signing 19-year-old Alex Woiski, a Spanish-born attacking midfielder with Argentine heritage. According to Clarín, the youngster passed his medical and is set to sign a three-year deal, with the club considering a high release clause.
Woiski, born in Palma de Mallorca to football agent Ronnie Woiski and Mar del Plata native Laura Pioletti, has already represented Argentina at youth level under Diego Placente. He played in the recent South American U-20 Championship and had previously impressed Marcelo Gallardo’s coaching staff, who had tracked him since January.
Initially a forward, Woiski evolved into a right-sided second striker known for his dribbling and attacking instincts. Despite being right-footed, he prefers cutting in from the left. Standing at 1.70 meters, he cites Julián Álvarez as his role model and shares a strong bond with fellow Argentine Luka Romero.
Woiski trained with Mallorca’s first team under Javier Aguirre and gained valuable experience with the B side. Now, as he joins his boyhood club, River hopes this promising dual-national talent can grow into a key figure in the years ahead.
