River Moves Fast, Secures Lucas Cepeda as Second Signing

As reported by Germán García Grova, River Plate is actively rebuilding their squad under Marcelo Gallardo. After finalizing the signing of Maximiliano Salas, the coach has reached a verbal agreement to bring in Lucas Cepeda, the 22-year-old Chilean winger from Colo Colo, aiming to bolster an offense that struggled last season.
Cepeda, known for his speed, agility, and attacking flair, fits the profile Gallardo desires for the 2025 squad. River offered for 70% of his rights with the deal expected to be around $4 million—below Colo Colo’s initial asking price of $5-7 million for the full transfer.
The upcoming sale of Adam Bareiro to Fortaleza in Brazil frees an international slot for River, clearing the way for Cepeda’s arrival. Since joining Colo Colo in January 2024, Cepeda has recorded 13 goals and 6 assists in 56 appearances and established himself in the Chilean national team.
If finalized, Cepeda will become Gallardo’s second reinforcement, a key addition as River looks to revive their attacking potency.
