Riveiro Keeps Faith as Pirates Stay Top After Draw in CAF Champions League
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro still believes in his team's chances in the CAF Champions League, even after their 1-1 draw with Stade d’Abidjan at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Saturday. Pirates started strong and took the lead with a penalty from Makgopa in the first half, after Relebohile Mofokeng was fouled in the box. However, Yeyes scored for the home team, giving them their first point in the group stage.
Riveiro acknowledged that his squad lost a few early opportunities, but he also praised the difficult circumstances and the opponents' impressive play. Riveiro remarked, "We have three more games, and anything can happen," expressing some optimism about their standing atop Group C with five points from three games.
Pirates lead by one point over Al Ahly, who will face CR Belouizdad on Sunday. Riveiro underlined the importance of upcoming matches, stating that everything is still in their hands as they aim for group stage progression.
