Details: NBA officials have officially announced the death of former power forward Michael Sweetney, who passed away at the age of 43. The player, selected ninth overall in the legendary 2003 NBA Draft, spent four seasons in the top tier of overseas basketball.

In an official statement, the association offered its support to everyone close to the player:

“The NBA mourns the passing of Michael Sweetney (1982–2026). Michael played four memorable seasons in the association with the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls. We extend our deepest condolences to Michael's family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Before turning professional, Sweetney was a college basketball star, dominating for Georgetown in the NCAA. On NBA courts, the forward appeared in 233 games for the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls before playing in overseas leagues.
