The Italian volleyball community has been plunged into deep mourning following news of the untimely death of a young athlete.
Details: Former Italy national team volleyball player and Bergamo club product Stefania Corna has died at the age of 35 after a long and serious illness. The news was announced by representatives of the Italian Volleyball Federation.
The talented setter's heart stopped beating on October 7. Corna began her professional career in the system of the renowned Foppapedretti Bergamo team, before spending many years in the top tier of Italy's Serie A1, representing Parma, Pavia, Scandicci and Monza. She ended her playing career in 2017.
The main achievements of the volleyball player's international career were the gold medals at the 2006 and 2008 junior European Championships, where she was the primary playmaker for Italy's title-winning teams. Numerous teammates, coaches and fans have expressed their deepest condolences to the athlete's family and loved ones.
It is worth noting that Stefania Corna was regarded as one of the most gifted setters of her generation in Italy. She was regularly called up to the country's youth and senior teams, earning the sincere respect of the sporting community through her dedication to the game and fighting spirit.
