RIP. A whole era is gone! Fiorentina mourns the death of a legendary Italian champion

Italian football and the city of Florence have suffered an irreparable loss as they bid farewell to one of the key architects of the club’s golden history.

Details: Fiorentina officially announced the death of legendary midfielder Sergio Carpanesi, who passed away at the age of 90. The former player forever etched his name into the history of La Viola, remaining the last surviving member of the championship-winning squad that secured the first Scudetto in the club’s history during the legendary 1955/56 season.

Fiorentina’s leadership extended its deepest condolences to the former footballer’s family and loved ones. Club president Giuseppe B. Commisso, vice president Catherine Commisso and the entire team share the grief of the Carpanesi family at this difficult time, highlighting the veteran’s immense contribution to the club’s winning legacy.

It is worth noting that over the course of his long career, Carpanesi spent 13 seasons in Serie A, making 276 appearances in Italy’s top flight. In addition to Fiorentina, the midfielder represented Palermo, SPAL, Sampdoria and Roma, with whom he won the Coppa Italia and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. After retiring from playing, he went on to enjoy a successful coaching career, taking charge of Spezia, Pisa, Prato and Mantova.
