Former Cameroonian national football team captain Rigobert Song has been formally appointed as the new head coach of the Central African Republic's national football team. The nation's Minister of Youth and Sports welcomed him to Bangui on the evening of January 13, 2025.

Song had previously led Cameroon to victory in the 2022 World Cup and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations while serving as their head coach. He will now lead the "Fauves" (Wild Beasts), the squad from the Central African Republic. His main goals will be to end the team's five-game losing streak and create a strong team that can qualify for their first major international tournament.

With six remaining matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Central African Republic is currently in a challenging position, sitting second-to-last in their group with just four points from four matches. However, there is still hope for advancement, and Song is expected to begin his coaching duties in March when the team faces Madagascar and Mali in crucial qualifiers.

Song's contract's specifics, such as its length and pay, are yet unknown. Song spoke with President Faustin Archange Touadéra prior to the formal announcement, demonstrating his dedication to leading the squad.
