David Villa himself said he’s delighted to rejoin the Atlético family and contribute to the team:
"I’m very happy to return to the club with new responsibilities, but with the same desire to keep helping Atlético Madrid grow stronger season after season. The club has experienced significant growth in recent years, and I hope to play my part in ensuring we continue to achieve success. I’m very grateful that they considered me for this role," Villa told Atlético’s club TV.
Alongside Villa, the new Atlético Madrid board of directors now also includes: Enrique Cerezo, Miguel Ángel Gil, Antoine Bonnier, Robert Jivon, Tristram Leach, Jim Miller, Sam Porter, Amit Singh, Javier Valle, Antonio Vázquez-Guillén, and Pablo Jiménez de Parga.
David Villa played for Atlético Madrid from 2013 to 2014, making 47 appearances for Los Colchoneros, scoring 15 goals and providing 5 assists.
In February 2020, Villa announced his retirement from professional football, with his last club being Japan’s Vissel Kobe.
