The root of the dispute dates back to August 2022, when Almería failed to meet tax obligations related to the transfer of Lázaro, who joined them from Flamengo. At the time, the Brazilian club was forced to pay €1.5 million in taxes out of their own pocket to ensure the transfer went through.
Flamengo is demanding that Almería reimburse the full amount, along with the interest accrued over four years.
The Brazilian powerhouse is hoping for understanding from Cristiano Ronaldo, expecting the iconic Portuguese to settle the debt that Almería’s previous management refused to pay.
