Replacement for Zubimendi? Real Sociedad targets Erick Pulgar

Real Sociedad has intensified its search in the South American market to find a replacement for Martin Zubimendi, who is being pursued by top European clubs. The chosen one for the replacement is Erick Pulgar, a Chilean midfielder from Flamengo.

At 31 years old and with experience in European football, the player is an ideal option to bring experience and versatility to the Basque midfield.

Pulgar, the current captain of Flamengo under the guidance of Filipe Luís, stands out for his ability to disrupt the play and distribute the ball. His recent contract extension until 2027 has not deterred Real, which is ready to offer up to 8 million euros, as reported by todofichajes.

It is worth noting that the Chilean is already familiar with European football, having played for Fiorentina and Galatasaray.

Real Sociedad has a history of interaction with Chilean footballers: from Claudio Bravo to Mark González, four players have already worn the txuri-urdin jersey. Pulgar could become the fifth, adding to the list that demonstrates the club's connection with the Andean region.

After failing to adequately replace Mikel Merino, who moved to Arsenal in 2024, the Basque club's management is seeking a player with the physical and technical profile that Pulgar perfectly fits. However, his arrival will depend on negotiations with Flamengo, which is preparing for the next Copa Libertadores.

Reminder: Arsenal is close to signing Martin Zubimendi. Negotiations between the clubs are "at a very advanced stage," and the London club is optimistic that it is only a matter of time before the deal is completed.
