Relegation Battle Looms as Clausura Kicks Off with San Martín and Talleres in Danger
The 2025 Clausura Tournament begins this Friday, and while some teams set their sights on titles or international cups, the most intense struggle may come at the bottom. According to TyC Sports, this season will feature two relegated teams—one based on the annual points table and another from the averages table—putting extra pressure on clubs near the danger zone.
San Martín de San Juan are in serious trouble. With just 9 points so far this year and a relegation average of 0.563, they sit last in both metrics. If the season ended today, Talleres would also drop to the second division. The Córdoba-based club sits second-to-last in points and averages, facing relegation just as they attempt to stabilize after a chaotic coaching change and minimal transfer activity.
Several other teams are not far off. Aldosivi, Sarmiento, Banfield, Gimnasia, Tigre, and Central Córdoba all hover above the danger line. For recently promoted sides with fewer matches in the average calculation, each win carries added weight.
In a short, high-stakes tournament, form and momentum are everything. For at least ten clubs, the Clausura will be less about climbing the table—and more about survival.
