Reinforcement for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Injured David Payne replaced by South African all-rounder
Gerald Coetzee has joined Sunrisers Hyderabad for the remainder of the IPL 2026 season, as reported by espncricinfo.
The South African all-rounder, renowned for his pace bowling, has been signed as a replacement for the injured David Payne. The deal is valued at 20 million Indian rupees.
To recap, the 35-year-old Payne managed to play only two matches, conceding 70 runs in five overs before being ruled out of the tournament with an ankle injury.
Coetzee approaches this new challenge with valuable IPL experience. In 2024, he played for the Mumbai Indians, and in 2025, he represented the Gujarat Titans. He last took the field in March, when he helped the South African national team in a T20I series against New Zealand, claiming 3/31 in the fourth match.
Currently, Sunrisers Hyderabad sit fifth in the table with two wins from five matches. Their next fixture is against Chennai Super Kings at their home ground in Hyderabad.
