Manchester United are determined to seriously bolster their midfield during the summer transfer window and have identified one of their top targets. According to Sky Sports News, the Red Devils are preparing their first official bid for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

The source reports that the London club values the player at around £80 million. At the same time, United believe this price tag is inflated and hope to reach a compromise during negotiations.

West Ham's management are confident that the Portuguese midfielder's potential is on par with Declan Rice, who was sold to Arsenal in 2023 for £105 million. That's why the club is in no rush to make a decision regarding the player's sale, despite their relegation from the Premier League.
