The upcoming semi-final matches of the EFL Cup will feature a significant new development in officiating.
Details: According to The Guardian, the league plans to test a new system where referees announce and explain their VAR decisions audibly to the entire stadium.
During the matches, after consulting VAR, referees will clearly state their decisions for all spectators to hear. If the experiment is successful, this system may be introduced in Premier League and lower-division matches.
On January 7, Arsenal will host Newcastle, followed by Liverpool traveling to Newcastle the next day. The second legs are scheduled for February 5 and 6.
Reminder: Liverpool are the current holders of the EFL Cup.
