Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Ayi has responded to criticism over officiating during Nigeria’s AFCON semifinal clash with Morocco on Wednesday in Rabat.
The Super Eagles lost 4–2 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation and extra time, but decisions by the referee sparked anger among fans and players. Supporters accused Ayi of favouring hosts, while some criticised CAF for appointing a Ghanaian official amid rivalry.
Super Eagles players Akor Adams Bright Osayi-Samuel complained, saying key calls affected the flow and outcome of the game.
Asked about the backlash, Ayi dismissed it, saying, “No, it's okay. It's football,”
Nigeria will now face Egypt in the third-place playoff.
