River Plate has made a sensational signing with Colombian midfielder Kevin Castaño officially joining the club.

Details: After protracted negotiations with Krasnodar and Cruz Azul, who owned 30% of the player's rights, the Argentinians paid $13.8 million, making this transfer the second most expensive in the history of "Los Millonarios."

The 24-year-old Castaño is known for his versatility in the midfield and his ability to control the game. Head coach Martín Demichelis insisted on his signing as the team needed to strengthen their midfield.

Previously, River Plate's second most expensive acquisition was Lucas Pratto, purchased from São Paulo in 2018 for over $11 million. Despite criticism over the high price, the forward justified the investment by scoring decisive goals in the Copa Libertadores final against Boca Juniors.

Rounding out the club's top three most expensive transfers is Sebastian Driussi's return, who was bought from Austin FC for $10 million in this transfer window.

Rodrigo Villagra, whose transfer was valued at $12 million, did not make the top three as the actual payments were lower. Also among the biggest transfers are Ezequiel Barco and Miguel Ángel Borja, for whom "Los Millonarios" also paid significant sums.

River Plate once again demonstrates its willingness to invest in players capable of becoming key figures in the fight for trophies. Castaño has already become a record acquisition, and now he must prove his worth on the field.

Reminder: Keylor Navas has signed with the Argentine club Newell's Old Boys, which is Lionel Messi's hometown club.
